Euphoria is an American adolescent drama show that does not really show the audience any superficial life of high school students. The literal meaning of the show’s name might mean ‘a state of utmost happiness,’ but the drama series was exactly the opposite to it. In Euphoria, a group of high school students is seen struggling with love, money, drug addiction, friendship, and social media while they grow up.

The HBO show has a total of two seasons and is available on Disney+ Hotstar and OSN. Talking about the dynamics among people, some had great friendships while some diverged more towards the toxic side.
Let us List the Euphoria Friendships and Duos That we all Loved and Hated at the Same Time.
Euphoria Friendships and Duos:
1. Ashtray & Fezco
When it comes to the ‘best friendship’ in the series, no one can beat Ashtray and Fezco. Fezco lived with Ashtray and was just like a brother to him. Ashtray used to help Fezco in his drug dealing business; willingly.
It didn’t matter if they were related by blood or not (which they obviously were not). They were nothing less than real brothers. This video depicts the “Fezco & Ashtray” bond most aptly. Ash might not be one of the show’s main characters, but he has always stood by Fezco’s side.
The season finale has just added to this friendship. It even revealed how Ash was left with Fezco and his grandmother when he was a little baby. They have been inseparable since then. They might be business partners but protecting each other has always been their priority.
2. Lexi & Rue

Lexi and Rue have been friends since pre-school, as explained in the first episode. Both of them were deeply connected initially. During season 1, we have seen them growing together. We saw Lexi comforting Rue at the Halloween party and even calling herself a burden. Lexi and Rue were also seen as detectives in an actual ‘euphoric’ episode where Rue became a maniac.
Going into the depth of this bond, Rue did not really consider Lexi as close as they were before, but this did not change the fact that Lexi genuinely cared for her and even gave her the urine so that Rue could pass her home drug exam. This relationship might have drifted because of what all Rue was getting into; her addictions and mental illness.
Audience’s Reaction to Their friendship:
A part of the binge-watching show’s audience suspected that Lexi had a crush on Rue. She had made certain jealous faces whenever Rue and Jules were together. However, this could also be because Jules became Rue’s best friend, but people have different perspectives.
When the first season was about to end, Lexi had asked Cassie if she wanted to hook up with someone. Cassie had replied by telling her to do whatever and whoever she wanted to do. However, the season ended without her hooking up with someone.
The audience believes that it was because she wanted to hook up with Rue and because of obvious reasons, it just could not happen.
3. Fezco & Rue
Rue‘s and Fezco’s bond was really wholesome! They are one of the best friendship duos on the show. Fezco, apart from being a drug dealer, was like a family to Rue. He had been generous and compassionate.
He had been way too protective of the depressed girl that Rue had become. She found a ‘confidant’ in him.
There was a conversation between the two wherein Fezco denied her drugs, and she got insane. However, she did realize her mistake and apologized. Once a drug dealer had asked Fezco if Rue was trustworthy or not; he told him that he considered her family and trusted her with his life.
Audience on Their Friendship:
The show’s female audience craved to have a “friend” like Fezco in their lives. We are sure they want a male friend as protective as him, but not when it comes to the profession he did, haha.
4. Jules & Rue
Jules and Rue met outside a house party. Rue introduced herself to Jules and asked if she could go home with her, and then the two of them returned together. Their friendship grew over time, and they became inseparable. They spent a lot of time together.
They used to be together at school, hang out, and crack their crazy jokes about the football team. Jules is a good friend and even showed concern over Rue’s drug intake after rehab. It all might sound so perfect and simple, but the friendships are easygoing only at their ‘face value’.
Their friendship had gotten some complications over time. Once Jules told her about her plans to meet a boy she had been chatting online with, Rue acted unpleasantly and later went to her home to apologize. After this act, she kissed Jules, but Jules did not reciprocate.
Rue‘s sister used to think that what they had was something more than just a ‘friendship’. The fun fact is Jules might not have kissed her back in the previous drama, but the two did have a proper kiss in later episodes. Also, this is not the only dramatic irony, as there was a sequence of events that were much more messed up.
Jules was in love with two girls. And that too at the same damn time; Rue and Anna. Jules and Rue were not really going well in a romantic relationship. Jules left her behind on a station platform. She was just like a substitute for drugs in Rue’s life.
Viewers on Their Friendship:
The audience liked their platonic friendship more than any other relationship they shared. People had even started stating quotes like “You are the Jules to my Rue” for their best friends.
5. Ali and Rue
This friendship duo might not have come up in this list if the special episode had not been released. Ali’s only screen time with her was during their narcotic meetings.
It was only in the special episode that the two of them had spent almost the entire time together. He was there with her, and the two of them shared a ‘bond’ over their really deep conversations.
This is the clip when Rue apologized to Ali. It felt so beautiful when Ali said, “The hour is certain to come, so forgive graciously”. It was a verse from Quran that they had added; Ali was Muslim in the show. And that showed how Ali had the heart to forgive her no matter whatever terrible thing she had spoken.
6. Kat & Maddy

They have been friends since childhood and have always had this subtle love for each other. Their bonding scenes might not have been too emphasized in the show, but the audience still found it. They were there for each other whenever any situation happened. Maddy talked to Kat when she found out about Cassie and Nate.
Maddy was even there for her when she needed advice about her breakup. Although Kat did feel insecure for certain reasons, and then she even had a bit of change in her personality, which Maddy did not like but things like these did not really lead to any kind of drift between the two. This shows that there was a mutual understanding, and the friendship only grew over time.
7. Jules & Maddy
Initially, this duo was only seen together with their mutual friend Kat. There were scenes wherein Jules loved Maddy’s outfit, and both of them were nice to each other. Later, the viewers even saw them coming to the NY party together.
However, this is one of those duos about which the viewers had mixed perspectives. A section of the audience found this friendship ‘weird’ as Maddy was the boy’s girlfriend who terrorized Jules and got her in all the mess; hence, Jules probably hated Nate. In contrast, some people thought that Maddy had done nothing wrong to Jules, and their friendship seemed pure, as Nate abused both of them somehow.
Here are some savage reactions of the people that they could not hold in and tweet since Maddy had seen the sex tape of Nate’s dad and Jules, so people could not digest this bond.

8. Nate Jacobs & McKay
Nate Jacobs was the most corrupt character on the show and actually deserved the title of “antagonist”. He basically used people and took advantage of them to get whatever he wanted. One can’t list all the terrible things he did. He did not really have any close friends and was the alpha male of the high school.
Initially, he used to talk to Christopher McKay as they knew each other from the football ground. They were not really close-close. Nate wanted McKay to feel insecure; hence, he tried his best to convince him that Cassie was only with him for sex.
McKay might be older, but yes, he was easily influenced and even started believing that everything Cassie did was sexual. Nate basically ruined Cassie’s and McKay’s relationship.
9. Rue & Elliot
The bond that Rue and Elliot had was very complicated. They met at the New Year’s Eve party and were seen bonding over their love for drugs. They stayed in the washroom of Virgil’s house. When Rue snorted the drug, which was the same as Elliot’s, she felt like she would die.
Elliot grabbed the crushed Adderall from her sock and helped her stay alive. This friendship took a turn when Elliot told Jules that Rue had not been clean, and the two told Rue’s mom about her drug addiction. Rue felt betrayed and had cut Elliot out of his life.
However, when there was this Lexi show, Rue got the memory of the time when she had visited Elliot. The two had a conversation about sorries and forgiveness, and Elliot had written a song for Rue.
Predictions on Rue and Elliot’s Bond:
Many viewers have certain predictions about their bond in the next season (if it comes). Rue and Elliot care about each other but are not good for each other for whatever reasons.
Those scenes where their eyes met during the show could be a hint that their story was not really over yet. We just have to wait and maybe manifest for the third season to have both of them back in a healthy way.
Last but definitely not the least duo,
10. Maddy & Cassie

Fans call this duo the worst friendship on the show.
In Beginning of Euphoria:
Sydney Sweeney (Cassie) and Alexa Demie (Maddy) were friends for a really long time. They even had a fair amount of screen time throughout the total span of 18 episodes. Fans caught them doing drugs together and a lot of other things together. They were really close and were seen making poor decisions.
By the end of Euphoria:
What happened in the final season of this HBO show was something that led to the death of this friendship. Cassie, who had this bad bitch tag, hooked up with Maddy’s ex Nate and hid it from Maddy, which was even worse. Maddy felt betrayed when she learned about this and how she felt made a lot of sense considering that Cassie was her best friend.
She even threatened to hurt her, and Cassie came up with the fact that whatever Nate and Cassie did was when Maddy and Nate were not dating. However, this cannot make up for what she did. Though the fans thought that Maddy would take her revenge as claimed, apparently, both of them became “strangers”.
During the end of season 2, Maddy had beaten Cassie up to get her revenge. Cassie told her about Nate dumping her, but Maddy did not show sympathy.

This video posted on Twitter by one of the thousand fans of the Maddy-Cassie friendship just shows how fans were initially fascinated and adored their friendship. However, since they appreciated this friendship out loud, therefore, their dislike towards Nate and Cassie was also shown out loud. Here are some of the tweets on Twitter about it.

Some Famous Euphoria Quotes
The HBO series had various friendship duos, just like any high school. Not all friendships are healthy and not at all toxic as well. There were certain lines said by the characters in Euphoria seasons 1 & 2 to depict their bonds and friendship which the viewers really liked and even used as “captions” on social media for their best buddies.
Here are a few of them:

1. “Bitch you are my soulmate” – Maddy
2. “I hate everyone else in the room but you.” -Jules
3. “Are you talking to your mama about me?” -Jules
4. “Out of everyone in the world, I wanted to tell you.” -Jules
5. “You are the best thing that’s happened to me in a long time.” -Rue
6. “It’s ’cause of you, you know.” -Lexi
7. “I have never, ever been happier.” -Cassie
Euphoria Review:
Viewers found Euphoria very relatable with the ‘Genz’ considering all this happens in almost every high school. How friendships happen, the good times, the memorable times, and suddenly how things take a turnover time because of boys, drugs, toxicity, and a lot of other things.
Friendship duos & groups in Euphoria like Ashtray-Fezco, Ali-Rue, and Lexi-Rue made the audience crave to have such friends in real life. In contrast, Maddy–Cassie was that duo that everyone hated and loved at the same time. People adored them.
On Sunday night, they used to go mad tweeting about their friendship goals but what happened later was what they did not see coming. Although it had characters going through drug addiction, but the writers of the show never made any scene that promoted drug intake.
It even had scenes where friendships broke because of this issue and how Rue felt betrayed when her mom was told about it but later realized that she had things to work on herself.
