Netflix The business began as a DVD rental service that continues to be in operation today but has subsequently evolved into the premier streaming service. Arrested Development, Orange is the New Black, and House of Cards were among the shows that first attracted recognition for their excellent television programming in 2013. These shows set the standard high. It was inevitable that Netflix would eventually start making movies.

Since 2015, after Beasts of No Nation made its online debut, Netflix has produced a steady stream of original feature films. The last three years have seen a number of deserving successes, like Bong Joon-Okja, ho’s Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma, and Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story. Netflix frequently favors quantity above quality, but it’s also made some mistakes.

These films demonstrate that some duds will inevitably be included in an unending list. Some Netflix films come out as the worst of the lot based on reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The reviewers have spoken. These are the 12 worst Netflix original movies to have ever been released.

Worst Netflix Horror Thrillers:

1. The Open House (2018)

  • Director: Matt Angel, Suzanne Coote
  • Cast: Dylan Minnette, Patricia Bethune, Piercey Dalton
  • Writer: Matt Angel, Suzanne Coote
  • IMDb Ratings: 3.3
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 13%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About The Open House:

A mother (Piercey Dalton) and her son (Dylan Minnette) move into a house to take care of it until it sells, but they soon become haunted by a menacing presence in the low-rated Netflix horror film The Open House.

The horror genre has advanced significantly over the previous ten years, but then a film like The Open House appears and reverses the trend. What’s the point of a horror movie if it can’t actually frighten you—or at the very least, weird you out—a little bit? You won’t be on the edge of your seat during The Open House; instead, you’ll be dozing off in your chair.

The two attempt to ascertain what goes on at night after each open viewing of the film, which has an open house as its basis. There are some good scares, but once the real villain is revealed and the finale seems forced, everything soon deteriorates.

2. A Fall from Grace (2020)

  • Director: Tyler Perry
  • Writer: Tyler Perry
  • Cast: Crystal Fox, Phylicia Rashad, Bresha Webb
  • IMDb Ratings: 5.9
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 15%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About A Fall from Grace:

Tyler Perry’s Netflix original film A Fall from Grace received a meager 15% on Rotten Tomatoes, and while it was well-liked by Tyler Perry devotees, it failed to win over viewers or critics in general.

The film makes an effort to lay out a web of conspiracies and to entice viewers to solve the puzzles. It follows a woman, played by Crystal Fox, who is on trial for the murder of her husband and her lawyer as they work to uncover the facts surrounding the incident.

Worst Netflix Action Comedies:

3. The Ridiculous 6 (2015)

  • Director: Frank Coraci
  • Writer: Tim Herlihy, Adam Sandler
  • Cast: Adam Sandler, Terry Crews, Jorge Garcia
  • IMDb Ratings: 4.8
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 0%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About The Ridiculous 6:

Netflix users now ponder why Sandler’s Netflix productions are so bad. In The Ridiculous 6, along with Sandler, Danny Trejo, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Luke Wilson, Steve Buscemi, and even Blake Shelton, these movies frequently offer a stellar cast.

Leave it to Sandman to take advantage of his partnership with Netflix to create one of the most absurd films to ever debut on the streaming service. This pseudo-Western parody is hated by almost everyone on Earth and has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 0%. It’s careless and outright offensive.

Naturally, The Ridiculous 6 only attracted a small number of fans outside Sandler devotees. With so much talent, the film also ranks among the most expensive Netflix originals in terms of production costs. Unfortunately, it’s also among the worst Netflix original movies ever to be released, largely due to Adam Sandler’s infamously hammy performance.

4. The True Memoirs of an International Assassin (2016)

  • Director: Jeff Wadlow
  • Writer: Jeff Morris
  • Cast: Kevin James, Kim Coates, Maurice Compte
  • IMDb Ratings: 5.9
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 0%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About The True Memoirs of an International Assassin:

It was just a matter of time before other celebrities decided to join Netflix. Having said that, The True Memoirs of an International Assassin seems to be Kevin James’ ideal Netflix project.

In this film, James is a novelist who gets mistaken for the code name of a genuine assassin when his book is published as a true story. He is then immediately abducted and coerced into a murderous scheme. In this way, he meets El Toro, played by Andy Garcia, a contemporary of Che Guevara.

Even though the storyline is ridiculous and wild, the clumsy execution will make you long for Paul Blart: Mall Cop. And that is significant. However, many have concluded that the film lacks both humor and intrigue.

5. The Do-Over (2016)

  • Director: Steven Brill
  • Writer: Kevin Barnett, Chris Pappas
  • Cast: Adam Sandler, David Spade, Paula Patton
  • IMDb Ratings: 5.7
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 9%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About The Do-Over:

Although the premise of this film doesn’t sound particularly novel, moviegoers and critics chose to give it a shot because it stars Adam Sandler, David Spade, and Paula Patton. Unfortunately, The Do-Over would only baffle Netflix subscribers. Your suffering from Happy Madison Productions is still ongoing.

In the movie The Do-Over, Adam Sandler and David Spade play two friends who, after their 25th high school reunion, pretend to die in order to have a “do-over” at life. Unlike peak Sandler films from the 1990s, this bro comedy lacks all charm, silliness, and redeeming qualities. It might be marginally superior to The Ridiculous 6, though.

However, as viewers could have suspected, the new identities they adopt only make their sad lives worse. But as the movie went on, the reviews got worse and worse, and Sandler’s Netflix career continued to suffer as a result.

Worst Netflix Action Thriller:

6. The Last Days of American Crime (2020)

  • Director: Olivier Megaton
  • Cast: Edgar Ramírez, Neels Clasen, Tony Caprari
  • Writer: Greg Tocchini
  • IMDb Ratings: 3.7
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 0%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About The Last Days of American Crime:

This Netflix action film is rated 0% on Rotten Tomatoes and is an abject failure. The movie puts up a gang of individuals who are plotting a heist, but it doesn’t really focus on the action and doesn’t try to be inventive with the combat choreography.

Another criticism of the film is that it is overly long—almost two hours and thirty minutes—and devotes an excessive amount of time to developing a convoluted plot that both critics and audiences clearly found boring.

7. How It Ends (2018)

  • Director: David M. Rosenthal
  • Writer: Brooks McLaren
  • Cast: Theo James, Kat Graham, Nancy Sorel
  • IMDb Ratings: 5
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 17%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About How It Ends:

A man is looking for his missing wife during the end of the world in the 2018 disaster film How It Ends, starring Forest Whitaker. The idea is sound, albeit cliched, but the gloomy situations and hammy acting and speech give the impression that the film is taking itself too seriously.

It takes tremendous skill to create an apocalyptic thriller that doesn’t feel tedious at all at a time when it seems like the end of the world is just around the corner. But despite its lack of engaging drama or character development, How It Ends succeeds in doing so. How does the film conclude? With you stopping it in the middle.

But How It Ends‘ main flaw is that it doesn’t have a satisfying conclusion. It wraps up right in the middle of an escape plan. How It Ends is a terrible movie from beginning to end, and both critics and viewers agree that it isn’t worth starting.

Worst Netflix Romantic Comedies:

8. Naked (2017)

  • Director: Michael Tiddes
  • Writer: Rick Alvarez, Mårten Knutsson, Torkel Knutsson
  • Cast: Marlon Wayans, Regina Hall, Dennis Haysbert
  • IMDb Ratings: 5.4
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 0%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About Naked:

In the Netflix film Naked, a character repeatedly relives a specific event in their life until they figure out what is keeping them stuck in the time loop. This is an attempt at the standard Groundhog Day plot.

Marlon Wayans makes his second raunchy Netflix cameo in the film, which centers on a man who repeatedly wakes up in an elevator without any clothing on his wedding day. Although it seems promising, most people concur that the Netflix original was a failure.

9. The Kissing Booth (2018)

  • Director: Vince Marcello
  • Writer: Vince Marcello, Beth Reekles
  • Cast: Joey King, Jacob Elordi, Joel Courtney
  • IMDb Ratings: 5.9
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 17%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About The Kissing Booth:

There are plenty of formulaic high school romance comedies on Netflix, including Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, Tall Girl, The Perfect Date, and others. But none will irritate you as much as The Kissing Booth, which is filled with irritating clichés and exaggerated depictions of adolescence. After a few drinks of wine, it might be entertaining to see, but by itself, it’s rather excruciating.

Romantic comedies are ideal for those seeking a soothing activity that won’t require much thought or emotional involvement. However, before streaming The Kissing Booth on Netflix, genre fans might want to think about their other possibilities.

The Kissing Booth is essentially a constant presentation of every romantic cliché ever heard by audiences, and critics couldn’t care less about this movie. Connoisseurs of rom coms might also find it interesting to hear that the general public didn’t think highly of the movie. It’s actually considered to be among the worst rom coms of the 2010s.

Worst Netflix Crime Thrillers:

10. The Last Thing He Wanted (2020)

  • Director: Dee Rees
  • Writer: Marco Villalobos, Dee Rees, Joan Didion
  • Cast: Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck, Rosie Perez
  • IMDb Ratings: 4.3
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 5%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About The Last Thing He Wanted:

This Netflix original has plenty of star power; the cast is led by Oscar winners Ben Affleck and Anne Hathaway, as well as well-known names like Willem Dafoe and Rosie Perez. Hathaway plays a Washington, D.C., journalist in The Last Thing He Wanted who risks her reputation to assist her father in brokering an arms transaction.

According to reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, the critics have described the movie as “confusing” and “frustrating,” despite the fact that the plot may sound compelling or even fascinating. However, the movie contains a few noteworthy aspects that are simple to overlook.

11. The Outsider (2018)

the-outsider
Source: IMDb
  • Director: Martin Zandvliet
  • Writer: Andrew Baldwin
  • Cast: Jared Leto, Tadanobu Asano, Kippei Shîna
  • IMDb Ratings: 6.2
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 17%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About The Outsider:

It’s not The Outsiders, though. It’s Jared Leto in the Japanese American crime thriller The Outsider. The Outsider, which stars Leto as an American soldier who joins the Japanese criminal organization known as the yakuza, received criticism for being too polished for its own benefit.

This movie had amazing potential just based on the plot. Critics, meanwhile, were utterly unimpressed. The upshot is a bland, generic crime drama that does little to pique curiosity, according to Variety, who also called the movie “dull, flavorless, and fundamentally incurious.” Leto’s performance was also criticized for being “disengaged.”

Worst Netflix Science Fiction:

12. The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

  • Director: Julius Onah
  • Cast: David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Daniel Brühl
  • Writer: Oren Uziel
  • IMDb Ratings: 5.5
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 21%
  • Streaming Platform: Netflix

About The Cloverfield Paradox:

A superb science fiction film is something that almost everyone can appreciate, and The Cloverfield Paradox started off looking fairly good. After all, J.J. Abrams, the person responsible for revitalizing the Star Trek franchise, produced the movie. He also developed popular television programs like Alias, Lost, and the science fiction series Fringe.

The Cloverfield Paradox had the potential to be so much better than it ended up being, thanks to a fantastic ensemble and an intriguing marketing campaign. The Cloverfield Paradox fails miserably, borrowing ideas from sci-fi greats Interstellar and Arrival but never managing to match their level of excitement or intensity. Furthermore, there are just too many space-themed dramas to ever watch a subpar one.

The Cloverfield Paradox by J.J. Abrams proposes the concept that the Earth might mysteriously vanish from space. Unfortunately, the characters felt underdeveloped, and the premise necessitated a lot of explaining. Some claim that the plot moves too quickly.
