The Boys is an American television series of the superhero genre currently streaming on Amazon Prime. In this article, we will be listing The Boys’ season 3 characters and rating their interactions on screen.
For a substantial amount of time, this series has remained the most watched as well as the most binge-watched series on Amazon platform. And it is no mean feat considering commercial Hollywood cinema is to some extent ruled by Superhero movies.
Marvel and DC have been trying to up one another with their continuously streaming superhero movies and web series. And in that backdrop, imagine a series that vilifies almost the entire race of superheroes (barring a few) and how the corrupt multinational companies cash in on them.

This series has been adapted from The Boys comic book by Darick Robertson and Garth Ennis. Creator Eric Kripke developed it for the screen. It portrays a twisted version of superheroes.
Fun fact is this series about bad supes and their superhuman affairs that was first published under DC, which has itself minted numerous superheroes like Batman, Superman, Flash, etc.
The Boys is about a team of vigilantes, which includes Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capone), Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). They have made it their lives’ missions to stop the Superheroes and make them pay for their flagrant misdeeds. The superheroes are under a powerful corporation Vought which is responsible for their images and publicity.
There is a team of the most powerful and vital superheroes called The Seven – Homelander (Anthony Starr), Maeve (Dominique McElligott), Deep (Chace Crawford), Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), Starlight (Erin Moriarty), A-train (Jessie T. Usher). The seventh member keeps changing in each season! One of the fantastic features of this series is its characters and their development over the episodes.
Even smaller characters like Victoria Neuman of Congress, Stan Edgar of Vought, and Grace Mallory from the Federal Bureau serve essential plot points. The episode begins with how A-train, with his superspeed, bursts through a girl killing her. He was under the effect of compound v, a drug that gives permanent superhuman abilities to people.
The girl he tears into pieces is none other than Hughie’s girlfriend. He is an outstanding chemist and was formerly a part of the crime world. Kimiko, a girl having super strength and healing abilities, joins the group and develops a special connection with Frenchie.

The Boys season 3 introduces the viewers to a host of new characters, with the most important one being Soldier Boy (played by Jensen Ackles of Supernatural fame). In addition, we saw Nick Wechsler as Blue Hawk, a racist white superhero. Miles Gaston Villanueva and Sean Patrick Flanery also joined the cast.
Each of the actors has been exceptionally good in their roles. The flow of each episode is beautifully tight and keeps the viewers on their toes. When some characters come on screen, their chemistry with each other is palpable.
The Boys Most Powerful Characters of Season 3:
Let us list the most powerful characters and how they blazed the screen when they interacted with each other in Season 3!
7. Queen Maeve and Billy Butcher

Maeve is one of the seven most popular and powerful superheroes in the Universe of The Boys. She is one of the remaining few good heroes who believe in saving people. But what we see about the character since season 1 is that she has a disillusioned aura.
Vought’s fake and self-serving ways had disillusioned her and embittered her against her ex-lover Homelander. As a result, Queen Maeve (emulating the DC character Wonder Woman) absolutely hates Homelander (who is the Superman in their Universe). On the other hand, we have a hater of the Supes, Billy Butcher, who had made it his life’s goal to kill Homelander and hates even the idea of Superheroes.
He is ruthless and will stop at nothing to get his goal. In season 3, we find that Maeve is colluding with Butcher to bring about the downfall of Homelander. She sneaks out to give Butcher a temporary compound V called Temp V, which gives the consumer the power of a superhero for 24 hours.
Maeve does this so that the Boys have a fighting chance against the all-powerful Homelander. She helps them to level the field. This scene ends with the two of them making out and then sleeping with each other.
This ship became an instant hit with the fans since both are worthy matches for each other. Their chemistry is scorching, and the fact that both of them hate the idea of each other makes it more compelling.
6. Butcher and Homelander

This one is higher on the list solely because of the fantastic performances by Anthony Starr and Karl Urban. There is madness in both of their eyes, yet it comes from two different sources. In a way, they are two sides of the same coin.
Homelander kills everyone in his path to keep his powers safe, and Billy is so caught up in his revenge drama that he (mostly) doesn’t care who he is sacrificing for it. Aside from all the bloodshed, this scene plays out beautifully in Butcher’s dining room. Homelander comes to speak to Billy.
He threatens to laser his brain out, but Butcher asks him to go ahead, thus calling out his bluff. They decide to fight one another one-on-one till the last man is left standing. They use the military strategy term Scorched Earth.
It means sacrificing one’s troops, even if it means defeating the other person. This conversation throws light on how Butcher is so consumed in his revenge goal that he does not even expect to survive the fight.
5. Soldier Boy and Starlight

Throughout the three seasons, we did not get to see Starlight’s power much. In this season, they confirm that she gets her power from electricity. In the finale episode, in an all-stakes high moment, we see the most powerful superhero, Soldier Boy coming to attack Annie.
However, her boyfriend Hughie, instead of trying to save her from becoming the hero (this toxic masculinity issue was a bone of contention between them this entire season), decides to change his ways and empowers her. It is a compelling moment when we see Hughie increase the power of all the lights from the control room to give Annie power.
But this scene is not higher up the list because the attack became a bit anti-climactic. Starlight used up all her energy in attacking Soldier boy but collapsed soon after that in a heap!
4. Homelander and Queen Maeve

Since season one, the viewers had known that Homelander and Maeve used to date in their initial days. This show that while she hates Homelander’s corrupted cruel nature, Homelander still has some semblance of weakness for her. We have seen Homelander blackmail and threaten her girlfriend.
In season 3, Homelander puts Maeve in a prison cell and tries to take her eggs against her wishes to procreate a superhuman baby with his sperm. Fed up with his antics, Maeve takes Homelander’s face on in the last scene. It is one of the most satisfying fighting scenes of the series.
Maeve keeps landing punches on him as he staggers back. However, the big man Homelander finally bleeds. If it weren’t for the fact that this series boasts of some more crackling fight scenes, it would have been rated higher.
3. Homelander and Black Noir

This is one of those characteristic twists of the series. Black Noir was a member of The Seven since season 1, but he was always a mystery man. Until this season, we had not seen his face before. Black Noir was a part of the Soldier Boy’s gang.
This season, the series reveals that he was one of those who conspired to bring down Soldier Boy because the latter has been physically abusive to the former. Due to continuous physical abuse and Soldier Boy almost melting half his face off, Black Noir develops hallucinations, infantilization, amnesia, and loss of speech, among other mental problems.
But we see that Homelander has faith in Black Noir and considers him his closest. That is why the following scene shocks the viewers to the core since we are already sympathizing with the man and his hallucinatory cartoon friends!
Homelander knows that Black Noir knew that Soldier Boy was his father and still hid it from him for all those years. So to take revenge for hiding this information, he punches him in the gut and brings out his actual guts and intestines in hand, leaving him to die on the floor.
2. Homelander and Soldier Boy

This is the showdown in the finale of this season. The expressions of both Anthony Starr and Jensen Ackles in their roles are too good. This cleverly written show tops itself in each season, and with these two characters sharing the screen, they have struck gold.
Both the characters have come to know of their blood relation. Both of them are devoid of any family of their own. Soldier Boy had made a deal with The Boys to kill Homelander in exchange for helping him track down his former team members.
When he comes to know that Homelander is his son, Billy and Hughie feel that his resolve might waver a bit. When at last, the two of them come face to face, Homelander gives a peace offer for them to give up fighting each other and accept each other as family. He also tells Ackles about Ryan (his son with Becca).
But it turns out Soldier Boy had not been able to break the curse of his father, who had treated him like shit and never thought him to be enough. He expresses his disgust at Homelander’s hunger for social validation and popularity. Then Soldier Boy attacks a taken-aback Homelander, who couldn’t even defend himself.
This scene is mind-blowing for another dynamic! Ryan comes forward to help his father, Homelander, but Soldier Boy pushes him aside roughly. This angers both Homelander and Billy Butcher, who, despite being arch-enemies, unite for a few minutes to protect Ryan. Billy had promised his dying wife Becca to always protect Ryan in season 2.
1. Homelander, Soldier Boy, Butcher, and Hughie

Surprisingly, the altercation scene that makes it to the top of our list is not in the finale. Instead, the series’ sixth episode, which was almost like a semi-finale, can boast of this. This episode called Herogasm is one of the very goriest and craziest aspects of even the comics.
In Herogasm, we see the TNT Twins holding a superheroes’ orgy party at their home. There Homelander arrives after being informed by the Deep that Soldier Boy is supposed to be there. Soldier Boy arrives with Buther and Hughie to kill the TNT twins as a part of their deal.
Mother’s Milk and Annie also come in hopes of stopping Hughie and Butcher from doing anything drastic that will result in all the people of the party getting hurt. But the fight ensues! Homelander turns out to be more than a worthy match for Soldier Boy. Hughie and Butcher, powered by the Temp V, help in the fight.
The temporary compound V had given Hughie telekinetic powers and Butcher laser eyes like that of Homelander. They both also got super strength. Soldier Boy, Billy Butcher, and Hughie push down Homelander with all their might, but at the last minute, Homelander escapes.
After all these episodes, it felt good to see Butcher and Homelander at the same level for once. The Temp V had leveled the playing field. The scene where Homelander and Butcher turned their laser eye rays to each other with all their might was a treat to watch.
Scorched earth, indeed!
Don’t miss it
The best thing about this series is you would love to witness a story from a different point of view if you are a superhero buff. At the same time, if you hate the concept of some people having powers over the rest of humanity, you would love this too. Plus, the tight episodes with gritty writing are wonderful to watch.
So, it is no wonder that all eight episodes of The Boys season 3 have IMDB ratings of more than eight and even the actors played their characters very well. The lowest is Episodes 1 and 3 with an 8.3 rating, and the highest is Episodes 6 Herogasm with a 9.7 rating. It is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Don’t miss it!
