The funny man of the 90s era and a glimpse of him behind the curtains. This boy from Brooklyn began his career on The Cosby Show as Smitty. With his naturally precise comic timing and gift for writing humorously, he spent five years in SNL before making it big in the movies in 1995. He might have gotten into comedy due to his father, but he stayed because of the audience’s love. Here is a glimpse of Adam Sandler Behind the Scenes in all your favorite movies.
The king of romantic comedies and, well, general comedies has become most popular in these genres. In today’s list, we compile together the best of his comedies but having different flavors. We have included subgenres of romance, sports, family, standup, etc.

Adam Sandler Behind the Scenes:
1. Billy Madison (1995)
- IMDb: 6.3/10
About Billy Madison:
Adam Sandler might have started his career as early as 1987, but this is the movie that put him on the map as a fine comedic actor. Tamra Davies directed it, but Adam Sandler himself wrote the script with the help of Timothy Herlihy.
Serious critics might scrunch up their noses at this one, but Billy Madison topped the Box office charts when it was released. Chris Farley made a cameo as a bus driver! This movie is beloved to this day.

Behind the scenes of Billy Madison:
Sandler has termed this movie as one of his favs since, according to him, it is the closest he has come to playing his real personality. There is a dodgeball scene in the movie where the adult character of Adam Sandler (who has enrolled in elementary school to get passing grades) is playing dodgeball with the kids.
He kicked the ball so hard that one of the kids got hit and started crying! The shot had to be cut for that. This movie about our favorite man-child had even gotten the actor nostalgic as he shared the first page of the call sheet of the movie on his Instagram account.
2. Happy Gilmore (1996)
- IMDb: 7.0/10
About Happy Gilmore:
This movie again saw former roommates Sandler and Herlihy team up to pen down the script which Dennis Dugan directed. Sandler’s performance as a high-strung, has-been ice hockey player was commendable in this sports comedy film.

Behind the scenes of Happy Gilmore:
Initially, Bob Barker was apprehensive about accepting the role. But then he heard that he would win the fistfight with Adam Sandler, which won him over! Also, he refused to use a stunt double in his fighting scenes and insisted that he do it himself.
After twenty years of hosting The Price is Right, Bob Berker was retiring, and Adam Sandler appeared in his last episode. It was a remarkable experience for both the actors concerned.
3. The Wedding Singer (1998)
- IMDb: 6.9/10
About The Wedding Singer:
This movie marked the beginning of Adam Sandler’s association with Drew Barrymore. They are arguably one of the most popular pairings and have the best chemistry in rom-com movies of the 90s. Frank Coraci directed this classic film about the ‘being engaged to the wrong person trope.
The Wedding Singer was one of Adam Sandler’s best comedies. The script and the cast performances were hilarious and so much fun. The music was the best. The Wedding Singer is a solid 10 because it’s a great time. https://t.co/vDQxscmz3Q pic.twitter.com/pCBkuhSxdG

Behind the scenes of The Wedding Singer:
Adam Sandler did all the singing himself that his character Robbie Hart does in the film. And not only that, he also even helped write the two famous songs in the movie – Grow Old with You, and Somebody Kill Me. After Happy Gilmore, this is the second film starring Adam Sandler, where Kevin Nealson made a cameo.
Barrymore claimed that she always knew she and Adam Sandler would be “cinema soulmates” even before meeting him! They went on to showcase their palpable chemistry next in 50 First Dates and then later in Blended. Despite having several songs in the movie, it was not a musical. However, this film went on to become a Broadway production that toured in 30 cities!
4. Big Daddy (1999)
- IMDb: 6.4/10
About Big Daddy:
Dennis Dugan directed this film where Adam Sandler (again) plays an immature and lazy guy who fosters a child in hopes of impressing a girl who dumped him because of his irresponsible ways. It got nominated for a lot of (ahem, not so good) awards like the Golden Raspberry Awards, Stinkers Bad Movie Awards, etc.
Behind the scenes of Big Daddy:
This film green-flagged the custom of Adam Sandler’s real wife, Jackie Sandler, to make a cameo in every movie after this. This is the film set where Sandler met his wife. Here, the then Mrs. Sandler played the role of a waitress that served root beer to the Sprouse brothers.
Adam Sandler‘s real-life best friend, Rob Schneider, cameoed as a pizza delivery guy. The funny story is there is a line in the film where the girlfriend is berating Sandler’s character by saying that he orders pizza online so frequently that the pizza delivery guy is like his best friend! (Well, who doesn’t love the pizza guy, am I right?!)
5. Funny People (2009)
- IMDb: 6.3/10
About Funny People:
This Judd Apatow film has quite the ensemble cast of Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and Eric Bana, besides Adam Sandler. It is the story of a morally compromised standup comedian who tried his hand at movies, failed, and now decided to return to his roots in comedy.
Behind the scenes of Funny People:
The characters of Sandler and Rogen were written for the movie keeping these two actors in mind. Did you know Seth Rogen started doing standup shows when he was just thirteen years old?
Director Apatow and Sandler were friends and went way back. The video in the film’s opening credits is a real prank video made by them. They used to be roommates and regularly filmed their pranks.
In the movie, the characters of the standup comedians – Sandler, Plaza, Rogen, and Hill were told to write their own content for the standup scenes. Then they performed that authentically while Apatow shot the scenes.
6. Grown Ups (2010)
- IMDb: 5.9/10
About Grown Ups:
This is another classic Dennis Dugan and Adam Sandler pairing, which portrays the story of five former high school friends reuniting. This one starred Salma Hayek, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, etc., and even spawned a sequel.
Behind the scenes of Grown Ups:
Fans will be sad to know that Chris Farley was originally destined to have starred in the role, which eventually went to Kevin James after Farley’s death. Adam Sandler had written the role, especially for Chris Farley. Studio Executives pushed back against Sandler when he decided to cast Salma Hayek as the female lead.
They wanted someone “less ethnic,” but Adam Sandler was firm in his stand and shut that down quickly. Before shooting started, the open-hearted actor had gifted a Maserati to each of the four actors playing his friends.
7. The Meyerowitz Stories (2017)
- IMDb: 6.9/10
About The Meyerowitz Stories:
Noah Baumbach directed a stellar cast for this Netflix family drama. Besides Adam Sandler, there is Dustin Hoffman, Ben Stiller, Emma Thompson, and Elizabeth Marvel. It won the celebrated Palm Gog award and got a four-minute standing ovation in its World Premiere.

Behind the scenes of The Meyerowitz Stories:
Adam Sandler has owned up that one of the most amazing experiences in his entire career was playing brother to Ben Stiller. He loved doing this film so much that he became an ardent fan of Baumbach, going as far as saying he would accept any movie the writer and director gave him without even thinking.
Adam Sandler has currently transitioned to Netflix and signed multiple film agreements with them. For further projects from his side, stay tuned!
